Movement for a healthy lifestyle

At Royal Roots Farm, we believe that how we grow is just as important as what we grow. Our farming practices are rooted in sustainability, cultural tradition, and care for both the land and our community.
We use natural and regenerative methods to build healthy soil, protect pollinators, and produce nutrient-rich food. Instead of relying on harsh chemicals or synthetic fertilizers, we focus on composting, crop rotation, and using rabbit manure as an organic soil amendment. This approach strengthens our soil year after year and keeps our food free from harmful residues.
Our livestock management reflects the same respect for life and balance. Our rabbits and chickens are raised humanely, with access to fresh air, space to move, and natural diets. In return, they help fertilize our gardens and complete the natural cycle of the farm.
We also embrace seasonal and culturally rooted growing, focusing on crops like okra, callaloo, pumpkin, beans, garlic, and peppers—foods that reflect both our Caribbean and Southern heritage. These are the flavors of our ancestors, grown with love and intention for today’s tables.
Beyond production, we’re committed to community resilience. We donate excess food to local community fridges, partner with nonprofits to teach cooking and preservation skills, and invite families to reconnect with the land through farm visits and learning experiences.
At Royal Roots Farm, every seed, every harvest, and every partnership is part of a larger vision—to grow food that nourishes people, restores the soil, and sustains our collective future.

Community is at the heart of everything we do at Royal Roots Farm. We work alongside local partners and neighbors to increase access to fresh, healthy food in our region. We donate produce and eggs to community fridges and support nonprofits that provide free meals, cooking classes, and food preservation workshops.
We also welcome families and youth to visit the farm for hands-on learning experiences that reconnect them with where their food comes from. Through our participation in the 3 Sistas Collective CSA, we’re expanding our reach by offering culturally rooted, nutrient-dense food shares grown by Black women farmers.
Together, these efforts help us nurture not only the land, but also the community it feeds.
At Royal Roots Farm, we believe in the power of self-sufficiency—our goal is to “teach a man to fish.” We offer both group and one-on-one classes that guide individuals and families through every step of the food journey, from seed to table.
Our current offerings include:
Each session is designed to empower participants with the knowledge and confidence to grow, cook, and sustain their own food systems—building resilience one family at a time.

Royal Roots Farm grew from a mother’s determination to feed her family and create a more self-sufficient life. Founded by Whitney, the farm began as a small backyard garden during her years as a single mother of six, driven by the simple goal of putting healthy, homegrown food on the table. During the COVID-19 pandemic, that garden expanded into a larger homestead as Whitney deepened her connection to the land and her passion for growing food naturally.
Shortly after, she met Byron, a single father of two who brought with him a wealth of farming knowledge and his Caribbean heritage from Jamaica. Together, they blended their experiences and cultures—Southern and Caribbean—to build what is now Royal Roots Farm, a thriving family-run operation rooted in sustainability, education, and community care.
Today, their blended family of ten works side by side caring for the animals, planting and harvesting crops, and teaching others how to grow and prepare their own food. From a backyard garden to a working farm, Royal Roots Farm is a living story of faith, resilience, and love—growing food and community from the ground up.
